About Puerto Viejo

Puerto Viejo, in the province of Cañete south of Lima, is a high-quality left much loved by Lima surfers looking for waves on weekends. The wave offers tubular sections and a good open shoulder for linking maneuvers, which makes it fun and complete. It breaks best with south swell, the condition that lights it up and turns it into one of the most classic lefts on the central coast. The best conditions run from April to October, when swells are more consistent and the wind tends to cooperate in the mornings. It is a wave suited to intermediate surfers and above: it is not as dangerous as the southern rock reefs, but it rewards those who can read the sections and use the wall. The area is quiet, with a weekend getaway beach vibe, ideal for spending the day away from the noise of the city.
