About La Herradura

La Herradura, in the district of Chorrillos, is one of the most iconic and historic lefts in Peruvian surfing, set in a horseshoe-shaped bay at the foot of the Morro Solar in Lima. It is a long, powerful, high-quality wave that only wakes up on large southwest swells; when size arrives, it offers fast walls and one of the best lefts in the capital, reserved for advanced surfers. On small days, the bay stays calm and becomes a peaceful beach surrounded by cliffs. The best season runs from April to September, in the middle of the southern hemisphere winter, when the most consistent swells arrive. Because of its history, La Herradura is a place full of meaning for Lima surfing: generations of surfers were forged here and it remains a reference point whenever there is a good swell. Its proximity to central Lima makes it very accessible despite its demanding character.
