About La Boquilla

La Boquilla is a beach located north of Cartagena, in the department of Bolívar, known for its small, consistent waves ideal for beginners. It is one of the best places on the Colombian Caribbean to learn to surf, with forgiving waves that break over a sand bottom and a surf-school scene driven by the local community. The area keeps a strong Afro-Colombian and fishing-village character, with a rich culture reflected in its music, cuisine and canoe tours through the neighboring mangroves. Its great appeal is the combination of surf with the proximity to Cartagena, the walled city and one of the most beautiful historic destinations in South America. The water is warm all year round and its best season comes with the trade winds, between November and March. For the traveler who wants to learn to surf and immerse themselves in Caribbean culture, La Boquilla is a perfect stop.
